The TODO list for the inventory is finished, and it’s been uploaded to /indev/. And three minutes to spare, too. Happy new year, everybody!!

One hour to go, not looking too good
I finally got the non-tile items working within the inventory, and you can see then in your hand. Because of a severe lack of graphics, you get pixelly sprites in your hands instead of real litems. =) Still left to do (in one hour..) is: * Add items laying around on the ground * Make it possible to drop items and blocks * Make it possible to pick up items and blocks If I keep the current system...

Partial update on /indev/, more to come
I’ve added a first version of the inventory screen to /indev/. It also includes the isometric map image builder thing (press F7!). I’ve got 2h20m remaining on 2009, and still need to implement non-tile items. Once this is done, I shall consider the inventory to be complete. Will I make it?

Some feedback on the feedback, and a picture of me
First up, the picture of me (pardon the strange angle): Next up, the feedback, in the form of a Q&A: Q: When will you reply to my email? A: Tomorrow. Christmas is finally over. Q: When will the free copy to a friend deal end? A: January 1, 2010. Q: Does the model have to be that cute? A: No, not at all. A huge focus is to keep the models customizable. If you want to play as an emo...

Time to go celebrate X-mas
I will be back on irc briefly on the 25’th, then away again on the 26th. My plan is to (finally) get the basic inventory system up by the end of the year. We’ll see if I manage to do that. =) For those of you who have sent me feedback (ever), thank you very much. You’re the best players a game developer could hope for. You’re honest with your opinions and still understand...

Three quick game reviews
DJ Hero The controller feels wonderful! I’ve never touched a real turntable mixer thingie like that ever, but this one feels just like I’d imagine them feeling. Just like with Guitar Hero, I’m aware that I’m not ACTUALLY being cool, but it feels real enough to me to immerse me in the experience. The songs are mostly good. There’s a bit too much scri-scri-scratching...

Oh, ok! Here, play with the latest version!
This is not official in any way, but I’ve gotten several requests that people who paid should be able to play the latest version, even if it’s horribly buggy and crashes all the time. And I agree. They should be able to do that, at their own risk. So here you go: http://www.minecraft.net/indev/ Please, do NOT report bugs you find in that version! I KNOW there are bugs, and I KNOW...

Customization for the new models is definitely...
Making sure they can be customized is a big priority. Don’t worry, we realize personal avatars is a big part of the multiplayer experience. =)

The Minecraft artist is Dock!
Hayden Scott-Baron (often known as ‘Dock’) created the characters in the LostWinds games for Wii, as well doing artwork for Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 and several other games. He is also an independent game developer, creating games such as Tumbledrop ( http://www.tumbledrop.com ). When I sent out the request for artists, I got about 30 applications over just a few days. Some of those...

A slight server snag, has been fixed now.
Full description follows: For some reason, the minecraft.net server was strangling itself. I couldn’t figure out what was going wrong at first, so I just restarted it. That seemed to fix it, so I left it alone. Then I got reports that people were unable to log in, and I got curious. In an attempt to see what was going wrong, I cleaned out the backups directory (after having saved them),...

taodih: posting a note on this , “reflective water” , you were saying about light and value’s , water is also reflective and can emit light , so to speak , would it be a good idea if like you said light = 10 and near water , water would have a formula something along these line’s , if *block that emits light* the water block near it would *amount of value/2* or -4 or something along those lines ,...

Finite Water I tried implementing finite water based on an old plan I had where water would only spread sideways if the entire layer below it was a solid lake. That is, if the layer below was still spreading sideways, it wouldn’t spread. In controlled tests, this made really nice waterfalls that slowly filled up pools from the bottom up. I really got my hopes up and prepared to record a...

Snowman Needs Your Help!
Check out this thread: http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?id=4453 He convinced me to join in, and I signed up for the final line (then I heard what it sounds like and started regretting it). I will record myself singing it on Thursday, and he needs about 15 more people to help out. Please consider helping out. =D

Game complete!
The Europa Arcology Incident Click here to play the game I recoded myself making the game, and make a timelapse. You can watch it on youtube, or download the high quality version from thepiratebay. I also broadcast the entire thing on livestream. If you’re really patient, you can watch me writing the game in real time. (That’s just the first part. The rest are in the Video library...

Whoops, gmail thinks I'm sending too much spam
Today was pretty crazy. The X-mas gifting seems quite popular indeed, I’m very happy with the response. An especially big thank you to everyone who donated and/or sent me an X-mas greeting. However, my server’s been cranking out emails at a silly rate, and since I send my emails via GMail, I tripped some limit on outgoing mail, and now I can’t send any more emails. It will be...

Server 1.10.1 is up
+ Fixed grow-trees again Also, if you ran into problems with the local ip fix I blogged about before, I’ve added a work-around for it: add “&override=true” to the url to force it to use the external IP.

And another fix
From now on, if minecraft.net detects someone trying to connect to a server from the same ip as the server, it will direct the player to 127.0.0.1 instead of to the server ip. This means you should be able to play on your own servers now without having to turn off verify-names.

New minecraft-server.zip (version 1.10)
+ Added a HUGE warning for running without verify-names turned off + Fixed grow-trees + Fixed a bug where people with long usernames could connect + Added admin-slot to server.properties. Setting this to true prevents people from logging in if the server is almost full and they’re not admins. Get it now! The warning reads: ######################### WARNING...

If you watch it, you’ll be able to see me develop a game from scratch, see how it progresses and comment on my work LIVE. I’m considering doing live coding sessions for minecraft as well, but I’m a bit scared of leaking the...

Minecraft Model file format: MD3
I’m adding MD3 support for Minecraft. There are a lot of advantages to this format: It’s fast! It lets me turn the torso and head procedurally! It has fairly wide spread support! It’s very easy! Adding linear interpolation after having written the loader took about 30 minutes Linear vertex interpolation slows down rendering by quite a bit, so it’ll only be used for...

Film Festival Reviews. Part 12.
This is the last one! Finally! The Countess After her husband dies, Countess something-or-other falls in love with a young nobleman. Several important and power hungry men drive them apart, and trick her into believing she’s been abandoned. So naturally, she goes mental and starts killing innocent girls by the hundreds. On the surface, this movie is a violent costume drama, but below that...

Film Festival Reviews. Part 11.
These reviews are by Ez (my fiancé): City Island http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1174730/ A cosy drama comedy with Andy Garcia where lies complicates the lives of an otherwise rather normal family. Garcia plays a prison guard with secret acting ambitions. He decides to house a criminal without telling him or the rest of the family that he is his father. I kept laughing along with the rest of the...
