Notch has left the building
I’m leaving on a two week vacation tonight, to celebrate my mother turning 60. While I will be bringing a laptop and there will be internet, I will try to not think about work as much as possible while I’m gone. To keep up with Minecraft development, you can check out our page on Facebook, or follow the following people on twitter: Carl Manneh (ceo!) Daniel Kaplan (bizdev!)...

Sleeptastic
Friday night, got home, fell asleep on the sofa. Saturday, went to Jakob’s place, fell asleep on the sofa. Sunday, stayed home, watched Freeman’s Mind, fell asleep on the sofa. Wow! :D Things have been fairly hectic here ever since we started the server migration, and I guess that caught up with me. Tobias has been amazing at sorting things out, though! Thank you, Tobbster!

Minecraft Beta 1.2_02
This update is a tiny one just to make the client download skins directly from Amazon S3 instead of from minecraft.net. Much of this week was lost migrating the server to the cloud, something that Tobias did an amazing job working on. Most of the site has been moved now, and seems to be running much faster than before. We’ve got five servers behind a load balancer, and a dedicated server...

The web server is struggling, we're migrating
Once again, minecraft.net is more popular than the poor old server can keep up with, so we’re upgrading. I’m not quite sure how long it will take to get done as it’s mostly Tobias doing the work (thank you, sir!). We’ve got a huge amazon cloud server which we’re moving the main server to. We’ll be able to replicate this as demand grows, and we’ll have a...

Minecraft Beta 1.2_01 (less bugs, more framerates)
This update affects both the client and the server, but the server update isn’t mandatory. I highly suggest updating, though. * Fixed various blocks acting really weird when placed (rails, torches, and more) * Optimized performance * Added a new painting that we forgot to include yesterday * Reduced spawn rates a bit * Fixed a whole pile of lighting bugs * No more ghosts at night * Added a...

Minecraft Beta 1.2
Minecraft Beta 1.2 is live. All servers need to be updated to 1.2. New features: * Note blocks (right click to tune, trigger to play) * 15 wool dyes * A new water dwelling mob * New tree types * Reeds magically turned into sugar canes. They still make paper. * A bunch of new crafting recipes * One secret useful block * One secret pretty block * Cake * AND MOAR, probably. I forget! Bugfixes: *...

Information dump incoming!
Week two of 2011 has started, and we had a great Monday. I’ve got a bunch of information to share, so here goes in a totally unstructured way: We’ve written down major goals that we want to do for Minecraft release, and it looks like the release will happen sometime late this year. Hopefully we’ll be able to set a date soon. Because I want to avoid us just focusing on reaching...

Strategy meeting day results
Yesterday was Strategy Meeting Day(tm) at Mojang. During the morning, we broke up into two groups and tried to come up with a suggestion on how to spend the next six months or so in different areas. I was part of the Minecraft and [Secret New Game] group. A big part of the discussion was to try to define what the full version of Minecraft actually is, and I think we ended up with something decent....

2011, here we go!
So it’s the first working day of the year, and we’ve got two more people in the office now. Carl Manneh and Tobias Möllstam. And we’ve got the entire office as well now. AND.. just a few minutes ago, I found out that Minecraft got three nominations for the Independent Games Festival (Grand Prize, Technical Excellence, and Excellence In Design). So this means I definitely will be...
